Workshop summary and how you can benefit

Mental health professionals are notorious for going above and beyond to help others, especially clients and patients they serve. As a result, it can be common to have looser boundaries and struggle to say no, know when to say no, determine the right time to do it, and feel comfortable and not guilty for doing so. When done properly, holding healthy boundaries not only helps your clients grow their skills, but also helps preserve your well-being and avoid risk of burnout. In this 2-hour WMHCA accredited workshop fulfilling the WA State DOH Professional Roles and Boundaries requirement, we will go beyond the basics of boundary setting and deep dive into how to specifically tackle boundaries with high-risk clients, professional boundaries with yourself to help you get clear on what your needs are, and boundaries with management/supervisors, depending on your setting.

What you get:

  • We’ll break down common boundaries and pitfalls mental health professionals encounter with clients/patients, colleagues, and themselves

  • We’ll critically think through case examples of dual relationships vs conflict of interest and how to best respond to these complex and nuanced ethical situations.

  • This workshop will offer a balance of educational content and hands on practice of the material.

  • This is highly interactive, so come prepared to share your experience, ask questions, and offer input.

I'm here to keep you engaged the whole time with lots of anecdotes, case examples, and opportunities for you to share and practice boundary setting. Whether you are in the hospital, school setting, private practice, or community/non-profit, this workshop is for you!

Why Michelle Solomon for Facilitating a Boundaries Workshop

We take trainings and CEUs all the time. I can’t tell you how many I’ve sat through and felt bored, disengaged, and frankly wanting to reach for my phone to check social media or respond to that text that was more interesting. That is why I’ve designed a boundaries CEU workshop that not only meets the WA DOH requirements, but it won’t put you to sleep. I value your input and voice, and there is so much power in what experiences and stories you have with this topic and want there to be space for sharing. I bring in personal examples I’ve experienced with conflict of interest and dual relationships and pose ethical dilemmas so you can critically think how you’d handle these as well. We’ll cover a variety of topics on this material

I’m a licensed independent clinical social worker and approved supervisor, coming with over a decade background in the mental health field. After working for over eight years in inpatient behavioral health settings, I found myself burned out in the height of COVID, and pivoted into solo private practice at the end of 2023. I feel very passionate about helping mental health professionals and caregivers navigate their own boundaries personally and professionally, ensure they are getting their needs met, and gaining confidence in being able to set clear boundaries without burning themselves out.

I also have presented several workshops on boundaries and burnout-related topics through some of the following organizations: NASW, NAMI, AMFM, Reflective Collective, and Judicial Assistance Services Program (JASP).
